Located in Northern New Jersey, Cedar Shakes Farm is owned and operated by Jersey natives and first generation growers Emily Jacobi and Joe Lynch. With over 20 years of combined experience managing vegetable farms, we are bringing our shared passion for sustainable horticulture and agroforestry to our own backyard.

Using principles of sustainability and permaculture, our land stewardship is guided by a special love for our environment and its inhabitants. For that reason, our nursery, food forest, and gardens are established using no-till methods and are fossil-fuel free in their cultivation and management. We highlight native plants in our system for wildlife and biodiversity, never use chemicals in our growing practices, and use only natural sources of fertility like manure, compost, leaves, ash, biochar, and woodchips.

Cedar Shakes Farm is located on the ancestral land of the Munsee Lenape people. We wholeheartedly respect their deep connection to this land and the history that came before us. We’re dedicated to honoring that legacy through our stewardship practices.

About Us

Our plant nursery specializes in edible perennials and native plants. We are working to offer a wide variety of seedlings, grafted trees, divisions, cuttings, and scions. We do not use any synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides on our farm and instead focus on healthy soils to grow plants that thrive on their own. All of our plants are shipped bare root and dormant, ready to take root in native soil and thrive.

The Nursery

All wreath material is lovingly cultivated from seed and grown using organic and sustainable practices in our gardens, or responsibly foraged from the local landscape. Each stem is harvested and dried using time-honored methods, preserving and even evolving their natural color, shape, and texture without the use of chemicals or artificial processes. Each one-of-a-kind wreath is then handcrafted with intention and made to last, brightening any room for years to come.
