'Reliance' Seedless Grape (Cutting)
(Vitis spp.)
For flavor and production, Reliance grapes are our favorite table grape to grow. Medium sized clusters of small, sweet grapes ripen from green to dark pink, have very tender skin and a refreshing pop when eaten, and keep fresh much longer than store bought grapes. They are not overly vigorous, making vine training easy. We have not had many pest or disease issues with Reliance, but if birds or chipmunks discover ripening clusters it is best to protect them with reusable mesh bags.
Flavor profile: Very sweet, slightly tart, fruity, firm yet tender skin
Hardiness zone: 5-8
Light: Full sun
Soil: Rich, well-drained soil with with pH 5.5-6.5
Spacing: 6-8’ depending on trellis system
Pollination: Reliance grapes are self-fertile, so only one plant is needed for fruit
Planting tips: Make sure to give hardwood cuttings a fresh cut on the bottom end before planting. Root in a soilless medium. The key to rooting hardwood cuttings is a cold top and warm bottom to encourage callousing and root establishment before leaf growth, which can be achieved with a heat mat or by placing atop a fridge. When planting out, its recommended to have your permanent trellis already set up as grapes will need support as soon as they start growing.
Growing tips: Reliance grapes can be either spur pruned or cane pruned, we prefer spur pruning for our arbor set up.
We are unable to ship this product outside the contiguous US or to California, Oregon, Washington, or Idaho.
All orders are for Spring 2025 and will be shipped in late March or early April. Cuttings will be shipped dormant.
